End of The Year Uke Miscellany

It’s the end of the year (not to mention the decade). Everyone is thinking about their New Year’s Eve revelry–and not much else.

Since there’s little news Uke-wise, I though I’d post some cool retro (and retro-looking) advertisements for your visual pleasure. The Ukulele seems to be a favorite prop in many ads and illustrations–whether they are music-related or not.

The first advertisement (at right) is the December page from the 1955 Brian Plumbing and Heating (Canada) calendar.

The next is an ad (at left) for the Moonshine Show in Malaysia. The illustration is by Soefara Jafney, a Malaysian artist who mainly designs T-Shirts.

And lastly, we have a page (below) from the 1953 Sears-Roebuck (Chicago) catalog featuring three Mahogany Ukes, a Baritone and it looks like two Sopranos. The Baritone sold for $15.95 with a pick and instructions!

Have a Happy and Safe New Year.

Enjoy!
