It took a while, but the long rumored Kala Paddle Bass will finally become a reality next week.

We told you about Kala’s developing the Paddle Bass HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.

Kala notes on its Web site and its Instagram feed that the Paddle Bass will be available to purchase on their Web site on Friday, May 4 for $199.95

The lightweight Paddle Bass is a collaborative effort with Kalani Das that was designed as an easy and affordable way to add bass to any setting. The Paddle Bass is the ultimate simple bass made from durable, easy-to-clean material. Compact and easy to transport, it’s perfect for any educational or therapeutic environment. The single string allows students, beginners, and players of all ages and abilities to achieve extremely quick success when played flat on a lap, table, or in the standard instrument to chest position.

The new bass features changeable, color-coded magnetic fretboards with the notes printed on them, making it easy to pick out tunes.

Kala says it is aiming the one-string Paddle Bass at the education and therapy fields.

As it stated in a reply to a comment on its Instagram feed:

This product is not meant to be for everyone but we do think it will serve as a valuable launch pad for very young musicians and music therapy patients.
