Add Galli Strings to your list of uBass string manufacturers.

The Italian string company says it’ll soon have a new set of black nylon, synthetic core strings for the uBass. No word yet on when they will be available or how much they’ll cost though.

But not to worry, our friend Magnus Sjöquist of Play Ubass says he has a set and will do a review soon. So keep an eye on his site for further details.

For now, here’s a short video from Galli Strings of the new strings in action.

Buy ‘Em By the Dozen

Oh No! Magnus fell and spilled all his uBasses!

You should be more careful my friend.

Magnus Demos the Paddle Bass

Magnus Sjöquist puts the Kala Paddle Bass through its paces.

Our friend Magnus Sjöquist of PlayUBass fame, posted a video of himself and his bandmates putting the new, as yet unreleased, Kala Paddle Bass through its paces.

Check out the video here.

As Magnus demonstrates in the video, the one-string bass can be adapted to any genre of music and can be played on the lap, mountain dulcimer style, or it can be held like a guitar and played that way.

He also did a Facebook Live video, explaining how the Paddle Bass works. Check that video out here.

Magnus Takes His New uBass Out for a Spin

Magnus Sjöquist poses with his new Kala California Series Acoustic/Electric uBass.

Magnus Sjöquist (I think by now I can just refer to him by his first name and you’d know whom I’m talking about) just posted a photo to his Instagram of himself and his new California Series fretless uBass.

Apparently he’s played his first gig with the new uBass and it went very well. Nice to hear Magnus! But how could you not love the uBass?

While you’re at it, why not follow Magnus on Instagram?

New uBass Newsletter

Issue #1 of Magnus Sjoquist's newsletter about the uBass is out now.

Issue #1 of Magnus Sjoquist’s newsletter about the uBass is out now.

It seems that I’ve been writing about my friend Magnus Sjoquist a lot lately, but, hey, he’s been a busy guy.

In addition to being a virtuoso on the uBass, recording, writing a blog and generally living life in beautiful Sweden, Mr. Sjoquist is also now producing a newsletter about himself and his uBass. It’s an email newsletter that he says will go out either monthly or bi-monthly (time permitting).

Issue #1 features news that Magnus plans to offer lesson packs covering different topics–some will be uBass specific and some will be about bass playing in general. He’s also willing to try setting up Skype lessons if anyone is interested.

And if that weren’t enough, he’s also recording a CD of uBass music featuring himself and guest musicians.

Magnus also wants your photos! Send him pictures of you playing your uBass in your favorite location. He wants to put together a poster of uBass players and their instrument.

If interested in getting the newsletter–or in anything else he’s doing–send him an email.
